Sendelica- The Pavilion Of Magic And The Trials Of The Seven Surviving Elohim 2011
the album starts with Zhyly Byly. a song that starts with a synthesizer melodic tone that leads into the song and is melting with the other elements like guitar and bass and drums. It is a bit like a welcome intro..a little message called that is me the song continues then with another riff in a harder version of that intro...
the sound of this song is more guitar based with a lot of diverted licks and and outlooks of the other instruments. a great song and danceable...at the end that melodical lick that is there also as an outro of the song and the album continues with The Elohim-without nearly no break. The whole album seems to be one piece of music, just with short bridges between the songs; it was such extreme that I had to ask Peter Bingham to send me a timeline that I could separate the whole in single songs; the album seems to be one symphony of cosmic spheres and guitars and basslines and drums which are all parts of a cosmic-symphony, which is played live and only got the facettes iof the different sets and ouvertures; like a real symphony in classical music. . the elohim is a very long song based on guitar-riffs and bass-lines.what is really splendid and phantastic, is the live-feeling that is within the songs. it seems not that there was a studio ( I asked; it is recorded in the studio) but more the listener is sitting on the stage while these great musicians are surrounding him and playing. and beyond the stage a hall with a lot of people in the audience... the album got really a great atmosphere. between those riffs, drumbeats and bass lines there are always some spherical noises and sounds which melting inside the songs and disappearing then in outer space. just like sounds that are passing by, while you fly and passing them.the song ends while it is divided in single instruments getting slower....and turn into-.Guiding to the night is the third song on this album; starts with a great rockriff which leads through the whole song and leads into Orion Delight which is more melodical with a interesting melodical pattern, played by the guitar. the fifth song is Arizona Spree starts with a levitated dark sound which changes to a very melodical played saxophone...which seems to get more silenced and to disappear but then it conquers its' place back and leads the song into another melodical sphere...one of the highlights!!!
the next song Banshees & Fetches starts with a levitated sound of an organ and strummed delayed guitar, which is in opposition to the organsound, while the bassguitar plays the melody of the song.so while the guitars and the drums are improvising the bass guitar is the stuff that keeps the song together. In the middle of the song also there is the saxophone again...also improvising. interesting is, that even if everything seems to be totally different, all together they become a picture..it is like mosaics. each instrument is one stone, each on its' own is not so important, but all together they are a really phantastic picture of a song. The saxophone leads out of that song in a really awesome solo. it is interesting to listen to a band who is substituting the lead-guitar with a very jazzy played saxophone.
then there are noises like if you are starting to run a vinyl.. while the needle is falling on the disk; as an intro for the song The Pavillon of Magic which is the last official song of this album.leaded by an overdriven guitar; delayed playing rhythm and lead-melodical and virtuos played. to a very solid rhythm basement with basspatterns and drums and it seems also another guitar is there inside or a synthesizer as a lightly contrast of the other guitar. very psychedelic!!!!and an outro like an lifting off spaceship...
as bonustracks there are two songs; first the song Venus in Furs; original by The Velvet Underground but in this version sung by a female voice a bit more rocky then the original and not as spherical. A great coversong-Version. maybe it would have sound like this if Nico would have more Blues in her voice and she would have sung this one, instead of Lou Reed. Her voice is a great contraste to the instruments. with a soulish influence in her voice.
The second one is This is the day original played by Captain Beefheart got a flute solo on it played by noone else as Nik Turner. the song is also sung by a female singer, but a different one, then Venus in Furs. a great song!!!
Summary: A great album of that legendary band Sendelica from Wales. it will be released at the end of JUNE on FRG-Records; details you will find on the site
