With the volcano a hazy memory and the post-Roadburn 2010 sleep deprivation dealt with, it’s time to start thinking about Roadburn 2011 (set for April 14 – 17 at the 013 venue and Midi Theatre, Tilburg, The Netherlands). Not just thinking, but doing! So what’s going on?
Right now we are talking to our two chosen curators who will be hosting a special event on Friday, April 15th, 2011 at the festival’s 013 venue. Roadburn will be in charge of the shows scheduled in the Midi Theatre. We are overjoyed that both curators were interested in working with us. They are truly groundbreaking artists and we will reveal their identities very soon!
We are also in the process of lining up the main headliners for the festival and so far things are looking really good! We will keep you updated, of course. We also want to point out that the tireless support from all of you, our beloved ‘burners, inspires us in our search for new bands to book. The wishlists on our official forum as well as the Roadburn Festival thread on last.fm have been a massive help! So many incredible and influential cult bands have been named, and we agree that all of the nominees would have made for one seriously amazing festival.
Sadly, harsh reality has proved to be kind of a buzzkill. The underground scene, too, continues to suffer from the global financial crisis. It’s getting harder to arrange one-off shows since so many established bands need to tour two or maybe three times a year in support of their latest release to be able to keep doing what they are doing, while new bands have it even rougher. As a last resort some bands end up drastically raising their fee.
It is also getting more difficult to fly bands in just for the festival due to the huge jump in airline ticket prices. Plus, some (US) cult bands can’t make it over here because promoters are unable to book them a full European tour. These are things we have to deal with on a daily basis right now, but we are not going to let them bring us down! In fact, we are positively brimming with ideas and we are going to rise to the various new challenges and make Roadburn 2011 just as epic as every edition so far. We’re up for it…how about you?

ну, мое первоначальное предположение подтверилось и кураторами будут Greg Anderson и Stephen O'Malley. надо признаться, я невъебенно рад , т.к. могу себе представить банды какого типа они позовут!!!

Greg Anderson, who is also Goatsnake’s songsmith and the entrepreneur behind Southern Lord Records, and Stephen O’Malley, a prolific improviser and composer who is well-known for being involved in Burning Witch, KHANATE, KTL and DACM/Gisèle Vienne theatre-works, have performed in different guises during various Roadburn festivals over the years, which is exactly why we felt they would be the ideal curators. Both of them consistently push the envelope musically, and one of our steadfast goals has been to make Roadburn a festival that explores the cutting edge while celebrating the familiar, too. With that in mind, we could think of no better spiritual guide for 2011 than Sunn O))).
We are truly looking forward to the new ideas and visions that the crossover drone duo will bring to the festival next year. When asked to sum up Roadburn in one word, “progressive” would be a fitting choice. Evolving and improving are part of this. The festival is a tribute to the open mindedness of its bands, curators and audience. The joy comes from expanding musical horizons, and with Sunn O))) acting as our curator we’ll definitely be in for some artistic surprises.
Roadburn Festival 2011, including Sunn O)))’s special event, will run for three days from Thursday, April 14 to Saturday, April 16 at the 013 venue and Midi Theatre in Tilburg, Holland. There will be an additional afterburner event on Sunday, April 17, 2011.
Roadburn is very proud to report that New York’s legendary and recently resurrected SWANS have been confirmed as the headliner at Roadburn Festival 2011.
Featuring band members Michael Gira (original SWANS), Norman Westberg (original SWANS), Christoph Hahn (mid-period SWANS and most Angels of Light ), Phil Puleo (final SWANS tour and most of Angels of Light), Chris Pravdica (Flux Information Sciences / Services/ Gunga Din) and Thor Harris (Angels of Light, currently Shearwater), SWANS will headline Roadburn on Saturday, 16 April 2011.

It is a massive understatement to say that we are looking forward to the formidable and brutal sonic waves and the extreme volume levels that SWANS will bring to the festival. We are still pinching ourselves that the fever dream of this highly anticipated resurrection has become a reality.
(First, SWANS will head to Vera, Groningen to perform their gorgeous sonic poetry and crushing brutality on 23 November 2010).

ну, Пентаграм покачто официально не подтверждены, но Бобби у меня есть в друзьях в еблокнижке, и там он писал, что их апрельский евротур стартует на Роадберне... так что, я думаю, официальное подтверждение - чисто вопрос времени.
но, вообще, да... лайнап обещает быть убойным. хотя, я с трудом могу себе представить, что он будет сильнее, чем в этом году. с другой стороны, надеюсь, что у меня не хватает воображения!
надеюсь, что если они действительно там будут, то их подтвердят уже после того, как будет солд аут (как Гарсию в этом году), чтоб билеты не раскупили всякие говнюки, едущие ради одной банды

Roadburn is very pleased to report that Sweden’s doom-legends Count Raven have been confirmed for a one-off show at Roadburn Festival 2011, set for Thursday, April 14th.
Sweden’s Count Raven is counted among the archetypal doom bands, and probably the most representative band of Germany’s legendary (and sadly defunkt) Hellhound label. Upon first listen, Count Raven comes close to cloning Black Sabbath (especially with the vocals being very Ozzy-like), but one can actually feel founder / guitarist / vocalist Dan “Fodde” Fondelius’ emotional engagement, and his poignant, all-too- real lyrics definitely help to dispel any perceived shortcomings in the vocal department.

After splitting up in 1999, and founding a new band by the name of Doomsday Government, Dan Fondelius decided to ressurect Count Raven in 2003 with original collaborators Tommy Eriksson and Christer “Renfield” Petterson, only to call it quits again in 2006. This album shouldn’t just be looked at simply as “Doom Metal that rocks” but a representation of both a man as an artist and and as a human being coping with a world in crisis.”
